- Abstract
- The keen interest shown by the Fire Insurance Industry in our "Why Map?" booklet and other recently-published material has been most gratifying. It is evident that company management considers "sound underwriting" a most timely and crucial subject. Publication of such material has produced many requests for further information. In attempting to find answers to some of the more unusual questions, we have been somewhat surprised once again at the dearth of educational materialon the subject of fire insurance underwriting. Except for factual information contained on the Sandborn Maps themselves, there seems to be relatively little printed data available to aid in the training of new underwriters or to serve as a guide for the more experienced. Practically all training in underwriting procedures today is handed down verbally and is primarily based on actual day-to-day problems with reference to the conditions shown on Sandborn Maps.
