Abstract
The European Recommendations for the Fire Safety of Steel Structures concentrate on the analytical determination of the fire resistance of load bearing steel elements as an alternative for the standard fire resistance test. The calculation of the fire resistance consists of the computation of the rise of the temperature in the steel member under the influence of the standard fire conditions and of the calculation of the critical temperature of this element. The fire resistance is the time necessary for the steel element to reach its critical temperature.
