- Abstract
- Studies show that the age group most subject to injury from fire has been identified as being between the ages of 18 and 25 years. Some have pointed to this as an indication that secondary school students are not prepared to cope with the dangers associated with fire. This curriculum was developed to provide individuals with sufficient information to be able to respond promptly and effectively when confronted with fire and act to prevent fires from occurring. The program was designed to sharpen awareness of fire prevention, develop positive safety habits and attitudes, and influence the students to encourage such behavior in others. It has been proven that public education programs can drastically reduce fire losses. It is hoped that this curriculum will reduce the number of deaths and the severity of injuries to people caused by fire, and reduce the number of fires and the extent of property damage that results from fire.
