Abstract
[ABSTRACT IN ENGLISH] The danger of rapid flame-spread during the course of a fire is of vital importance to the safety of the occupants. In most countries this risk is assessed on the basis of standard tests on small samples which differ considerably from one case to another. It became clear that the validity of the classifications obtained in this way ought to be checked by actual fire tests in a full-size dwelling. An extensive research program on these lines was undertaken by the C.S.T.B. Fire Research Station. This article deals with the principles underlying these tests and with the heat-testing procedure which has been developed.
