- It is gratifying to encounter such marked interest on the part of the fire insurance industry in the subject of sound fire insurance underwriting. The enthusiastic reception accorded Reports No. 1 and 2, as well as other allied material which we have produced over the past two years, has come in the form of hundreds of complimentary letters, phone calls and personal remarks. As a results, we have been continually on the alert for additional data in this field. When the report reproduced on the following pages cane to our attention some months ago, it struck us immediately as a most excellent subject for this series. In essence this report, with special empahsis on gross lines, reinsurance and inspections, is an analysis of the underwriting procedures and practices which has made this particular company group one of the best knownand most respectedin the country.
