- With the exception of decision-making management, perhaps no single job in the Fire Insurance Industry more directly affects the financial status of an insurer than that of the fire insurance underwriter. His decisions add up, in the final analysis, to an underwriting profit or loss - and underwriting, basically, is the principal business of an insurance company. Thid Guide series was initiated approximately two years ago in an effort to help alleviate this dearth of printed information. The enthusiastic response, as we have indicated previously, has literally come from all over the world and from eductional, institutions as well as the industry itself. It has bee most gratifying. As a result, we plan to continue to produce additional Reports ad infinitum as long as we are able to come up with something which we believe may be helpful.
