- Abstract
- College residencies pose an increased risk of multi-fatality fires due to the lifestyles of college students and the larger than typical number of occupants. Current firesafety and lifesafety evaluation methods require expert fire protection engineers to do an assessment; these assessments are very costly. An expert prescreening system was developed in this thesis which allows people with little to no fire protection knowledge to do a preliminary lifesafety evaluation of a building for lifesafety. This prescreening tool allows colleges, landlords, fraternal organiations, and students to perform a low cost building evaluation for lifesafety. If the expert prescreening indicates potential lifesafety problems, then a detailed engineering analysis should be conducted by a fire protection engineer.
