Abstract
Results are presented for burning rates, temperatures, and gaseous products for experimental fires in enclosures of two sizes. Four regions are observed, each one being characterized by a range of values of the ventilation parameter, burning rates, gaseous product composition and temperatures. At critical ratios of weight of the fuel/volume of the chamber, all the four regions are present, and only two regions are observed. A critical condition is defined corresponding to extreme danger which may occur in residential home fires.
