- Abstract
- It has often been claimed by fire investigators that a poor contact to ground can add sufficient resistance to a circuit so that the breaker or fuse failed to cooperate during a ground fault. The resistance of the poor contact(s) in the path to ground was presumed to keep the current limited to what could be carried by the overcurrent protection. This paper shows why that circumstance is extremely unlikely.
