Abstract
The United States and Canada have long had among the highest fire death rates in the world. Recently we discovered that Hungary's rate is even higher. Austria, The Netherlands, and South Korea have among the lowest fire death rates per capita among industrialized nations. The U.K. in a fire sense, is two nations: England and Wales, which have substantially lower death rates than the U.S., and Scotland, which has one of the highest fire death rates. The presentation will present aspects of fire protection in these nations that might help explain the huge differences in fire rates, and also some of the good fire protection ideas that they have.
