- Abstract
- This report provides statistics on home fires involving biomedical equipment. In 2002-2005, an estimated 260 reported non-confined home structure fires per year involving biomedical equipment caused annual losses of 54 civilian deaths, 66 civilian injuries, and $9 million in direct property damage. Most (80%) of these fires involved oxygen administration equipment. These estimates are based on data from the U.S. Fire Administration's (USFA's) National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS) and the National Fire Protection Association's (NFPA 's) annual fire department experience survey.
