Abstract
Construction contract incentives can be useful devices to improve project performance. The findings presented in this research report substantiate that assertion. It is possible to direct a contractor's energies in any direction sought by incentivizing key project objectives and identifying the right performance criteria. Learning when to use incentive concepts and which ones would work best in various situations was the primary objective of this study. We were especially interested in more innovative features and applications, as reflected in the report. Project conditions that enhance the viability of a particular feature are also discussed; e.g. contract type, owner goals and capabilities, amount of design complete at the outset of construction. A second important goal of this study was to assess the cost effectiveness of incentives.
