- Abstract
- This report provides statistics on home fires involving trash compactors. In 2002-2005, an estimated 1,450 reported fires per year involved trash compactors. Nearly all (99%) of these fires were reported as confined to a commercial compactor. These estimates are based on data from the U.S. Fire Administration's (USFA's) National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS) and the National Fire Protection Association's (NFPA's) annual fire department experience survey.
