- Abstract
- The objective of this study was to determine the effectiveness of various fire alarm and evacuation systems in nursing homes. Essential portions of the study included recording fire alarm sound intensities in various portions of a large number of occupied nursing homes, interviews and completion of questionnaires by staff in these facilities, and the collection of data describing the hardware and proper installation in various facilities. The study required the cooperation of the Illinois Association of Health Care Facilities, the Administrators and professional staff of facilities in Illinois, assistance from acoustic engineers and a special effort on the part of the maintenance engineers and staff of survey facilities.
