- Abstract
- The cost of protecting metal frameworks is a factor that all too often operates against their use in competition with other materials and processes. These costs can be substantially reduced by a very thorough analysis of the hazards, the behavior of structures as a function of their design and the means of protection employed. The reduction can even go as far as to eliminate all special fire protection for the whole or part of the frame. Under the heading of "overall cost" consideration must also be given to the maintenance costs and the cost of repair or alteration.
