- Abstract
- Although the response factor method is a powerful tool in analyzing the transient heat conduction through multi-layer slabs, its use has been limited in the past to the plane wall problems. Calculation formulas of the response factors for cylindrical and spherical walls were developed and are tabulated in this paper. Sample calculations for a typical building wall structure under a periodic boundary temperature profile were compared with exact solutions. Sample calculations show residues at the several poles of the inversion integrals of the Laplace transforms response factors and common ratio of the response factors. Also included in this paper are formulas for evaluation semi-infinite systems and those for calculating heat flux and inter-layer temperatures of several non-linear boundary value problems.
