Abstract
This document is the first Annual Report of the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Its purpose is to present to the Congress and the general public a comprehensive survey of actions taken in the fiscal year ending June 30, 1973, under the Consumer Product Safety Act, PL 92.573. That Act established the Consumer Product Safety Commission and transferred to it the responsibility for implementing several existing laws, specifically: The Flammable Fabrics Act, as amended (15 U.S.C. 1191, et.seq.); The Federal Hazardous Substances Act, as amended (15 U.S.C. 1261, et.seq); The Poison Prevention Packaging Act of 1970 (15 U.S.C. 1471, et.seq.); and The Act of August 2, 1956 (Refrigerator Safety Act; (15 U.S.C. 1211, et.seq.). This report also includes some actions taken in FY-73 under these laws before the Consumer Product Safety Commission became operational on May 14, 1973. Also included, as Appendix D, are materials fulfilling the reporting requirements under the Flammable Fabrics Act.
