- Abstract
- This report provides statistics on home fires involving yard or other outdoor equipment. In 2002-2005, an estimated 420 reported U.S. non-confined home structure fires per year involving yard or other outdoor equipment caused associated annual losses of 4 civilian deaths, 21 civilian injuries, and $13 million in direct property damage. Also, an estimated 2,390 reported outdoor fires per year involving yard or other outdoor equipment caused annual losses of 11 civilian injuries and $1 million in direct property damage. These estimates are based on data from the U.S. Fire Administration's (USFA's) National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS) and the National Fire Protection Association's (NFPA's) annual fire department experience survey.
