- Abstract
- Negotiations between the Army Engineers Research and Development Laboratories resulted in Contract No. W44-009 eng-5057 for conducting studies, research and investigations leading to the development of a fire extinguishing agent with fire-fighting characteristics equal to or superior to methyl bromide. Although fluorine containing compounds were of a great deal of interest to this project, the investigation was not limited to a study of the applicability these compounds as fire extinguishing agents. A literature search revealed that no systematic study had been made of compounds to be used as fire extinguishing agents. In general, a proposed compound was tested by putting out fires under specified conditions. Such a test method was obviously not suited for rating research samples of a few grams of material.
