- Abstract
- SRI International proposes to design and develop new halogen-free flame-retardant polymers. three general approaches to producing flame-retardant polymers: (1) Suppress rates of depolymerization (fuel-generation), (2) Deliver highly effective flame-suppressant species to the gas phase, and (3) Minimize delivery of monomer (fuel) from the polymer melt surface. SRI has recently completed a literature search of this subject. This review has helped the first two approaches as being particularly promising. Within these two general approaches, we have identified several techniques that are worthy of greater investigation. We propose to conduct a laboratory investigation of these thechniques with the view to developing new flame-retardant polymers.
