Abstract
This report is a compilation of papers on construction safety and health, some of which were included in the Fifth Annual Rinker International Conference on Construction Safety and Loss Control. This conference was conducted at the Unviersity of Florida through the Center for Construction Safety and Loss Control at the M.E. Rinker School of Building Construction. As a prelude to the formation of W-99, this conference provided an opportunity for safety professionals from around the world toshare ideas and stimualte thought processes leading to the furtherance of construction safety. The diversity of the papers provided a substantial resource for those interested in construction safety. The parts of this report provide a cross section of safety concerns that construction managers are required to deal with on a recurring basis. Construction Safety has become an international issue that involves every construction worker, regardles of his country or work environment. The international perspective on worker safety, management's role in safety, and the costs associated with safety throughout industry and government are the basis for this report. This report is the first of a series of reports by the W-99 Working Commission. Subsequent reports will include future trends of construction safety and health, as well as developments in leading-edge technology.
