- Abstract
- Analytical and experimental results from an investigation on upward flame spread on vertical wall are reported here. First, a detailed review of literature on upward flame spread is presented. An approximate, but complete analytical procedure for predicting upward flame spread on practical materials, which can be used in a global fire hazard assessment model, is then described. The model uses material "fire properties" obtained from small scale tests and other available physical properties to predict growth of fire in an upward flame spreading situation on walls made of practical materials. Experimental results on upward flame spread on various materials are obtained and the validity of the model is established.
