- Abstract
- At approximately 6:33 in the morning of May 8, 1992, the Stratford Fire Department received an automatic alarm reporting a fire at Buchingham Drive, a housing authority apartment building. An elederly woman was found engulfed in flames sitting in a chair in the living room. The fire damage was limited to the area of the living room where the victim was found, but the origin of the fire was in the bedroom which had sustained almost no fire damage. The cause of the fire was determined to be an electrical fault in an electric heating padin the tenant's bed. The age and mobility of the occupant and the practice of sleeping on the heating pad were contributing factors in this fatal fire.
