- Abstract
- This letter reports work outlined in project CN-1018 entitled, "Refrigerant/Lubricant Heat Transfer," which was initiated in March 1994. A pool-boiling/visualization test rig was used to investigate the effect of lubricant viscosity and miscibility on the boiling behavior of R134a. The focus of the study was to determine if the heat transfer degradation/enhancement caused by the lubricant depends primarily on its viscosity or its miscibility. Previous work with ICI lubricants showed that some lubricants caused a heat transfer enhancement. It was speculated, but not proven, that the viscosity of thelubricant influenced the heat transfer enhancement. The present study was intended to demonstrate the effect of the lubricant viscosity and miscibility on the pool boiling performance of R134a.
