- Abstract
- Different plate thermometer (PT) designs have been evaluated at the Swedish National Testing and Research Institute (SP) and at Warrington Fire Research Centre (WFRC) in England. The results obtained show that the ceramic fiber board in the original PT can be replaced with a non health hazardous calcium silicate fiber board and that the 1 mm thermcouple could be replaced with a 3 mm TC without changing the thermal characteristics. In addition one test indicated that the size of the plate could not be reduced without changing the temperature readings. The PT is used for controlling furnace temperature and harmonizing thermal exposure in fire resistance furnaces and is proposed for the new European standard EN 1363 Part 1.
