- On May 4, 1988, the First Interstate Bank Building in Los Aggeles, California, erupted in flames. The blaze began on the 12th floor of the 62-story structure and spread upward, eventually reaching the 16th floor. One building employee was killed in the fire, and the building was unusable for months afterwards.
