Abstract
Models for estimating the response of heat and smoke detectors are reviewed. Underlying theories and assumptions are identified and discussed so that users will better understand the limitations of the models. Known and potential sources of errors are identified and, where possible, corrections are discussed. In addition, nine currently available computer programs which utilize these models are evaluated. Included throughout are research topics and ideas for future work to enhance detection modeling and reduce errors.
