- Abstract
- As a result of research conducted in the UK and USA the original concept of a Cabin Water Spray System in which water was sprayed throughout the entire length of the cabin has been improved. By the use of a zone concept the system effectiveness has been improved, weight reduced and potential hazards arising from a water spray have been minimised. This report analyses the possible costs of a reduced weight Cabin Water Spray System installation. To this end a theoretical design concept was established and costed for three typical sizes of civil aircraft. The report is in two parts. Part 1 of the report, which has been prepared by AIM Aviation under contract to the CAA, addresses the design costs, equipment costs, installation costs, maintenance costs and direct operating costs of the system. Part 2 of the report, which has been compiled by the CAA, uses data contained in part 1 to determine the potential cost benefit of cabin water spray systems.
