Abstract
A study of composited exposed to fires or simulated fire environments. This study consists of two parts. One, an in-depth review of previous works which investigated the heat and mass transfer occurring in composited exposed to heat. Two, preliminary development of a three-dimensional heat and mass transfer model for a thermally-thick, laminated, anisotropic, fibrous, charring composite exposed to a radiant flux. The fundamental governing equations laid out in this thesis can serve as a basis for a state of the art model to determine the thermal response of composite materials to fire.
