- Abstract
- This report contains a detailed account of the extension of autoignition kinetic studies to multi-component systems. This includes work done on polymers trated with flame retardants as well as one study on a multi-component fibrous blend. All of the results obtained with flame retardant treated fabrics have confirmed previous indications that this technique is capable of identifying those additives that affect the decomposition of the polymer in contrast to those that operate only in the gas phase on the flame produced during burning. The study on a blend (polyester-cotton) has shown that chemical interaction between two polymeric species can be detected through autoignition studies.
