- Abstract
- The focus of this project was to extend the Fire Modeling capabilities for furniture fires, both numerically and experimentally. Numerical work was based on the existing RFIRES computer code. A sensitivity analysis was performed for this program and a user manual compild as part of this project. Two types of experiments were conducted--fires with real furniture, and idealized simple geometry fires, intended to study flame spread characteristics. Since the RFIRES code at present lacks a flame spread subroutine an extensive literature search was conducted to identify suitable flame spread models. Analysis of the available background here led to a formulation of the basic features required for a flame spread subroutine. Special emphasis was placed on the ability to treat non-standard plume configurations.
