- Abstract
- This bibliography provides a basic, comprehensive reference and training tool for Government employees working in the broad areas of buildings design, construction, operation, and maintenance. It was compiled in the Central Office Library of the General Services Administration in consultation with the management and engineering staffs of GSA's Public Buildings Service. Material included in the bibliography was selected primarily on the basis of demonstrated pertinence to the information needs of the Public Buildings Service. Author's credentials, permanent value of the material, and availability of material in a given subject area were also major selection criteria. With few exceptions, only books published after 1940 and periodicals after 1960 were included. During the compilation of the bibliography, the catalogs of the Library of Congress, the Library of the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Library of the American Institute of Architects, the Library of the National Housing Center, and the Central Office Library of the General Services Administration were consulted. Also reviewed were such standard indexes as the Cumulative Book Index, the Art Index, the Applied Science and Technology Index, and the Engineering Index, as well as numerous specialized indexes and bibliographies prepared by various private organizations and Government agencies. Prices have been included for all material available from the publisher at the time of printing. The Library of Congress classification number, as adapted, is included for items owned by the General Services Administration Central Office Library.
