- ABSTRACT IN ENGLISH A comprehensive computerized litterature searching has been carried out to collect information about fire extinguishing media and the mechanisms of fire suppression. The litterature has been examined, classified and fed into a computerized library, making it very easy to find litterature of special kind in the future, not only for the Division of Fire Technology at the Swedish National Testing Institute (SP), but also for external users. This work has been supported by BRANDFORSK through Grant RTJ-23 "Slackverkan av slackmedel". Supplementary support has been provided by SP. The authors are greatful for helpful inputs to this report from BRANDFORSK's reference group for fire extinguishing media. In this report the up to date knowledge about different extinguishing medias and their extinguishing mechanism is presented. The Examination of the litterature has shown the necessity of more research about the effect of extinguishing medias on flames, the interaction between sprays and flames and the interaction between extinguishing medias and burning surfaces. In the report some suggestions for research projects are described in order to complement the areas in which the knowledge still is insufficient.
