Abstract
At our present state of fire technology we have only an incomplete understnding of how materials burn and of how burning materials interact in confined spaces such as furnished rooms. There is much research in progress designed to improve our understanding of fire phenomena but it may be several years at best before we shall be able to calculate fire behavior from a knowledge of fundamental properties and configuration of materials and fluid mechanic and heat transfer.
