Abstract
Low pressure twin fluid (air and water) nozzle can generate water mist droplets in the 80-200 micron range. Has been shown to be effective on wood, fuel oil, diesel, gasoline and natural gas fires. Additives can be added to improve performance. Seawater can also be used. The spray attenuates the heat and radiation of the fire and reduces surrounding temperatures. The spray also strips smoke and particles from the atmosphere and absorbs toxic gases. Gas turbine fire tests indicated that combined pool and jet oil fires up to 8 MW in turbine hoods could be extinguished in less than 4 seconds using only 10 liters of water.
