- Abstract
- This report covers the design, tests, and evaluation of the 15-pound and 50-pound bromotrifluoromethane (halon 1301) fire extinguishers. The program resulted in the development of fire extinguishers which are far more effective than the carbon dioxide extinguishers currently used and the carbon tetrachloride extinguishers formerly used by the Army. Engineering tests and design studies were conducted at USAERDL from August 1951 to September 1955. Service tests conducted on these extinguishers proved them to be satisfactory for military use.
