Abstract
In early 1991, as part of an agency-wide reorganization, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) created the Building Technology and Fire Research Laboratory (BFRL) by merging its Centers for Building Technology and Fire Research BFRL's mission is to increase the usefulness, safety, and economy of constructed facilities, and reduce the human and economic costs of unwanted fires in buildings. This report summarizes BFRL's research for 1991. The report is arranged by its research programs: structural engineering, materials engineering, mechanical and environmental systems, fire science and engineering, and fire measurement and research. Each summary lists the project title, its research, the BFRL point of contact, sponsor, and results.
