- Abstract
- Extinction of flames in engine and furnace combustors and in radiation cooled fire remains a challenging problem for computational modeling. Measurements by Raman spectroscopy in turbulent jet diffusion flames near extinction are now available and the implications for modeling will be discussed. Reduction of large kinetic schemes to a 4-step reduced mechanism capable of predicitng the structure and critcal phenomena in laminar premixed and diffusion flames is presented as a first step in the development of an adequate modeling approach. Questions of flame structure will also be addressed.
