Abstract
In this report, recommendations are given regarding dimensioning and design of a mobile foam protection system that the fire brigades need to be able to fight fires in crashed tank trucks, railway tanks, etc. The assumptions have been that fires both in petrol products and polar solvents should be possible to extinguish. The equipment shall be possible to handle with a crew of 1 and 4, which is an ordinary size of the first crew that is available at a fire alarm. Based on a test series where 4 full scale tests were performed simulating this type of accident, together with studies of real accidents and other various test results, the following recommendations are given: Available waterflow--2000-2500 1/min; Available faom concentrate--appr 1000 1 alcohol resistant, film forming foam; Foam equipment--1 monitor with a capacity of 1000-2000 1/min 2 foam branches with a capacity of appr 200-400 1/min; Foam proportioning equipment--dimensioned for the given flowrate and usable for ARC-concentrates. Adjustable between 3% and 6%; and Additional equipment--2 fog nozzles for cooling, protection, fires in rubber tires, etc. The system is capable of extinguishing spill fires of petrol appr. 500 m2, and polar solvents, appr. 300 m2, using gentle application.
