- Abstract
- Current advances in fire protection technology at the National Bureau of Standards may provide a means to reduce further the loss of lives and property due to accidental fires. Many of the Bureau's recommendations have already been incorporated in underwriters' and municipal building codes, with consequent savings in life and prevention of property damage. However, there is a continuing need for technical information on the fire hazard properties of new building materials and structural assemblies. A better knowledge of the basic mechanisms of ignition, spread, and extinguishment of fires is essential for effective fire prevention and control.
