- Abstract
- This report describes the major causes of aircraft-related fatalities and major injuries and recommends system capabilities that could be retrofitted into existing tactical aircraft to substantially reduce these types of fatalities and major injuries in the future. The system capabilities recommended for investigation are (1) ground-proximity warning device, (2) selectable automatic ejection system, (3) vertical-seeking ejection system, (4) parachutes made of fire-retardant materials, (5) reserve/high-gide recovery system, and (6) descent-rate-measuring and automatic opening devices.
