- Abstract
- Safety aspects are the prime considerations of building constructions. Fire safety in a building is determined by a number of factors. Building interior layout, occupants, circulation patterns, construction materials, access and escape routes, fire detection and fighting systems are all important considerations in building design. Key areas of a safety code of building are discussed. Current safety requirements of buildings in Hong Kong are reviewed. Performance-based fire codes are strongly recommended for buildings requiring special design such as atria.
