Abstract
Smoke Tests were conducted July 29-August 2, 1974 on the life safety air handling system for the Seattle Federal Building by a National Bureau of Standards Team headed by Dr. Francis C. W. Fung using an SF6 tracer gas technique. GSA's prime purpose for the tests was to evaluate the effectiveness of the air handling system in keeping floors, stairwells and elevator shafts free of smoke--trying the test plan as much as possible to evaluating the appropriateness of the personnel movement plan in moving people from the fire floor and the two adjacent floors, to a minimum of two floors away from the fire floor. We were interested in evaluating the smoke control system's ability to keep the refuge floors exit passageways and other floors free of smoke contamination.
