Abstract
The subject of this Report is the fire resistance classification of a steel building column protected with cementitious mixture applied to an average thickness of 2-1/2 in. as described in the section entitled "Erection of Test of Assembly." The purpose of the investigation was: [1] To determine the fire resistance classification of a structural steel column protected in the manner described herein, when tested in accordance with the Standard for Fire Tests of Building Construction and Materials, UL263 (ASTM E119, NFPA No. 251) and [2] To determine the minimum thickness of cementitious material required to obtain a 3 and 4-hour classification by using the test results of the column assembly described in this report and in report R6183-4 dated June 10, 1970.
