Abstract
The National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS) is an information system initiated and supported by the U.S. Administration. The U.S. Fire Administration developed NFIRS as a means of assessing the nature and scope of the fire problem in the U.S. The system first came on line in 1976, and since then it has grown in both participation and use. This report is an attempt to capture the many ways that NFIRS data are used and the many types of organizations that benefit from its availability. The U.S. Fire Administration (USFA) and the National Fire Information council (NFIC) jointly manage NFIRS.
