- Abstract
- Six candidate materials were tested in fuel fires as outer cover for the Pilot's Protective Assembly. They were standard Gold PYPRO, NASA Gold FYPRO, Green Nomex, Blue Nomex Gabardine, Gold Nomex Gabardine, and White Nomex. Each assembly was put on a manikin with temperature sensors, helmet, gloves and boots and exposed for three seconds in a JP-4 fire. Heat flux was measured with wedge calorimeters and each assembly was pressure tested before and after the exposure. The standard Gold FYPRO appeared to resist the exposure to flames best.
