Abstract
The Research on Instrumented Mannikin Program is a 15-month effort which will yield two instrumented mannikins for use in fire test of protective clothing and their associated data acquisition and data reduction systems. This report covers progress from 1 July 1971 through 31 July 1971. Primary accomplishments for this reporting period were: 1. Acquiring background information through literature search in the areas of: a. skin simulants; b. physiological factors; c. data acquisition; d. mannikin art; e. materials selection; 2. Sources have been investigated for: a. data acquisition and reductions systems; b. mannikin systems; c. instrumentation systems; 3. Preliminary analysis of thermal characteristics of candidate materials and their similarity to human skin has been accomplished. 4. On-site observation of fire testing of protective clothing was accomplished on July 21-22, 1971. 5. A program kick-off meeting was held on July 21, 1971.
