Abstract
The summary of the research study promoted by MAPFRE Foundation by means of the scholarship granted to its author, analyzes the combustibility of decoration wall papers and inside covering up paintings for housings. Nine different types of painted papers and two paintings, similar to those generally used in inside decoration, are the materials that were tested. The experimental study was carried out fixing the test sample on plaster fibercement and wooden carriers. The tests which were performed over 70 test pieces are the following: (*) incoambustibility test (UNE 23-102); (*) radiation ignitability test (UNE 23-271); (*) heating potential test (UNE 23-103). The features and results of the tests as well as the material's classification are given in the tables and data panels that appear on the present paper. The results of the tests carried out on papers placed on "unburnable" carries prove that these papers do not contribute to the beginning of the fire, because they do not ignite under the effect of a calorific focus. Among the conclusions reached by the research study the followings are to be noted: (*) in the covering up of walls, ceilings and floors their thermal qualities are important both in papers and paintings; (*) the calorific potential of papers and paintings is important but no relevant as to their contribution to fire is due to the "fire load" they provide; (*) the contribution to the beginning of the fire is important and depends on the carrier on which they are fixed; (*) the combustible carriers suffer the influence of covering up papers weakening their reaction behavior towards fire.
