Abstract
Variable air volume (VAV) systems have been used extensively in office buildings during recent years. However, there are persistent complaints by building occupants about the air quality and environmental conditions of these buildings. This guide has been developed to give guidelines on VAV system design to alleviate possible design-caused problems. This guide provides general discussion of VAV systems, air handling system design, system control, and commissioning. This guide has been developed for the General Services Administration to be used by GSA personnel and GSA's contract designers. It includes design check lists as a means of identifying major aspects in VAV system design where new construction and alteration of air systems are involved.
