- Abstract
- Halon fire extinguishing agents presently offer the greatest advantage for the following aircraft fire protection applications: Extinguishment of engine installation fires; suppression of fuel tank explosions; suppression in large cargo and habitable compartments by means of total flooding; first-aid fire extinguishers for Class A, B and C fires. The specific halon fire extinguishing agent best suited for each application will vary. Current halon fire extinguishing agents are not competitive for fuel tank inerting and suppression of explosions induced by multipoint ignition sources.
